Kosmos Energy champions clean drinking water projects in Ghana.
Building On Success in the Western Region
Access to clean, potable water is crucial for the health of communities. Kosmos initially worked with the Safe Water Network to build water filtration systems for over 28,000 people from 20 villages in Ghana’s Western Region. This region includes the six coastal districts closest to our offshore operations.
This water project has benefited more than 28,000 people from 20 villages and led to:
7 Working Water Purification Facilities
8 Trained Local Operators
60+ Local Vendors Engaged
The project was such a success and received such a positive response from the community, Kosmos decided to expand on it to give more people throughout Ghana the benefits of clean drinking water.
Bringing Clean Water to People Across Ghana
In 2016, Kosmos began our partnership with Water Health Ghana (a subsidiary of Water Health International) to provide clean drinking water for villages including:
Kwabenya (Greater Accra)
Amanase (Eastern Region)
Nyanyano (Central Region)
This water project has benefited more than 39,000 people and led to:
3 Water Purification Facilities
3 Trained Local Operators
Continuing Kosmos Water Projects
Kosmos continues to work with Water Health Ghana, with plans to install water purification facilities and provide management training for additional communities going forward.
Supporting Healthier Communities
In all our water projects, Kosmos has also supported health and hygiene education and monitoring programs to gauge sustainability and promote improved community health outcomes.
Kosmos-supported water projects have brought the benefits of clean drinking water to nearly 130,000 people in communities across Ghana.
